Godly Grit, Glitter Grace
Our guest speaker at Prime Time last night, Kym Byrd, shared that there are essentially two ways to endure: 1) get through it, gut it out, and it can get a little ugly and perhaps end up with some regret, or 2) push through with patience and (godly) perspective, seeing the beauty in the bad. Kym then likened God’s beautiful grace like glitter, which sparkles and shines when it’s seen from the right perspective. Are we seeing God’s glitter-grace in our lives now? Because it’s everywhere all the time.
Most recently, God unexpectedly used a new kitten to bring light to dark places in Kym’s life over the past few months. As she cared for this kitten, Kym began to remember again how God cares for her, even if she doesn’t feel or see it. Do we see God’s glitter-grace when we look back on our lives?
Kym also exhorted us that one of the main ways we can see this glitter is to slow down—to be silent, to be still, to give space to reflect and to quiet out the noise and distractions from our lives. Perhaps a walk outside observing God’s good creation. Perhaps singing worship songs aloud. And certainly meditating on God’s Word, prayer, and fasting are also great spiritual disciplines to regularly be doing, all of which will prepare us to see God’s glitter grace in the future.
To wrap up, Kym quotes Psalm 139:7-12 to remind us who we are (in Christ) and whose we are:
7 Where shall I go from your Spirit?
Or where shall I flee from your presence?
8 If I ascend to heaven, you are there!
If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there!
9 If I take the wings of the morning
and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,
10 even there your hand shall lead me,
and your right hand shall hold me.
11 If I say, “Surely the darkness shall cover me,
and the light about me be night,”
12 even the darkness is not dark to you;
the night is bright as the day,
for darkness is as light with you.
