HISTORY
"So, too, at the present time there is a remnant, chosen by grace.” (Romans 11:5)
AIA-Brown has a decades long history of being a faithful presence on campus. There are hundreds of stories behind this brief outline of God’s good work at Brown and beyond.
I (Jarrod) have personally spoken with Brown alumni from every decade since 1960 and have heard their stories—what an incredible privilege to be part of God’s faithful presence on College Hill! Here’s a brief summary:
1970: Students reach out to Cru Staff (e.g., Roe Brooks) in Boston to help them launch a ministry at Brown University.
1976: Cru (with which AIA is affiliated) sends staff to Brown to give leadership to the campus ministry (e.g., Ellis, Greg, Jeanie)
1983-1988: New Cru Staff arrive (Kent & Deniece, Dave, and others) to continue growing the movement, which expands to hundreds of athletes
At some point in the early 1990’s, the Cru/AIA Staff were sent elsewhere, but the ministry continued
1994-2002: New Cru Staff Tim, Cindy, and Brandi arrive to give new leadership to the campus ministry.
At this time, only a few athletes are involved.
2003-2008: New Cru | AIA Staff Geoff & Michelle and Brodie takeover the Cru ministry and continue to reach out to athletes
Missions trips overseas recommence
2005-Present: New AIA Staff Jarrod Lynn (Brown ‘05, ScM’07) officially (re)launches AIA at Brown, then Susie Lynn joins the team in 2007.
Many athletes involved, at least half of the sports teams represented; many athletes attend the Ultimate Training Camp
2006: The annual AIA Northeast Winter Retreat launches and Brown sends a solid contingent of athletes every year since
Missions trips launched, traveling to countries in Europe, Asia, and Africa, as well as around the country
2014-2015: Holleigh (Brown ‘14) interns with AIA, Grant and Elizabeth start volunteering shortly after
2021-Present: Kevin & Bre join the team
More still to come…
